Origami is a Japanese art of folding paper into beautiful shapes and figures. It started in the 17th century and became a symbol of world peace after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II.
Eng. Ahmed Bakhit was inspired by the Origami to the extent that he self-taught the art of Origami by trial and error over 8 months by practicing multiple forms and with different paper materials (with even newspapers!) till he mastered different forms that he learned through the internet and youtube making different forms of animals, birds and flowers. He was then ready to begin paving his own path in Origami and began to invent new forms inspired by the Arabic caligraphy and Islamic art.
For example, he integrated new forms of Origami for lighting equipments that exist at home, or work. It can be used as a decorative lighting at the same time called "Chandelier Origami" as you will see in the video:
In addition to using the Origami as a decorative practice, Bekhit is also developping a new curriculum to use the Origami in children's education and he thinks that there are other areas to explore with time.
