Do you have an innovative technique for temporary printing on large textile to guide embroiderers during the process?
A call for engineers, designers, professionals and entrepreneurs to provide an innovative technique to print temporary complex designs on textile to guide embroiderers in Suhag for a chance to win 20,000 EGPprovided by the British Council (Developing inclusive and creative economy program) to implement the solution.
This challenge aims to the creation of significant economic opportunities for creative artisans and craftsmen in addition to supporting efforts to preserve this ancient craft from vanishing. Please read the following for more details!
Background
The ancient craft of embroidery demands proficiency, precision, and taste of art to create innovative designs on various sizes of textiles. Currently, in Suhag, more than 300 embroiderers depend on their skill to copy the designs from a small paper to large textiles which take a long time and does not always give accurate results.
This affects the vision of the working women severely as it relies on carefully embroidering the designs with high attention to detail for long hours. Also, it does not allow the women to learn how to embroider new designs as they tend to stick to the designs which they already know to avoid any mistakes.
Consequently, the embroiders fail to fulfill the market needs for new designs, which puts this ancient craft and its heritage at risk of fading away.
The Challenge
To create an innovative technique or machine to temporarily print the design on textiles to guide embroiderers and ease the copying process of the designs. This solution should aim to help the working women during the production operations to provide more convenient working conditions and sustain this ancient craft. The submitted design should fulfill the following criteria:
Temporarily printing of digital designs (Permanent printing solutions will be disregarded)
The winner will receive a reward of 20,000 EGP provided by the British Council - Developing Inclusive and Creative Economy program to implement the solution in Suhag, according to the following conditions:
The solution should meet the aforementioned criteria
The solution should be provided as a prototype design that serves as a proof of concept
The solution should include a clear plan of action including implementation stages, timeline, required tools/materials, estimated budget, and technical support required (if applicable).
The reward will be given in installments, in accordance with milestones set by the innovator(s) according to their plan of action.
Preference will be given to designs relying on locally available components.
In case of delivering a machine only:
The innovator/solver is committed to providing technical assistance to deal with any problems that may occur within the first 3 months after the delivery of the solution.
The proposed solution should include a user manual, instructions and a training plan for employees to use the solution.
As per our platform Terms and Conditions, in case the intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator should include the minimum details required to judge the technical validity and feasibility of the solution without full technical specifications.
You can submit a solution at any time. Before doing so, we strongly recommend you to read the rules and FAQs.
