Repelling Wild Boars

Build Palestine is looking for collaborators to find an innovative animal-friendly technique to keep wild boars away from farms in Palestine which are usually attacked by the boars in their hunt for small insects and other creatures living in the soil.

An invitation to animal control experts to find a cost-efficient and creative technique to repel wild boars from the agriculture farms in Palestine thus help farmer-owners to save their agriculture goods from the damage while repelling these wild animals in a friendly way. Please read on for more details!

The Problem

In Palestine, wild boar numbers have increased in recent decades which caused many problems to the farmers. The hogs jump over the fences and they tear everything up in their hunt for small insects and other creatures living in the soil which destroys the crops and plants.

Many farmers tried to build fences to keep the boars away, but in vain as the boars could easily jump over or destroy the fence to look for food. Also, it’s illegal to hunt the hogs or to use poison to reduce their population.

Every year, the number of farmers who stop cultivating their land increases due to the damage they receive by the wild boars, relying solely on olive production for their yearly income.

The Challenge

To find creative and innovative repelling technique to drive the wild boars away from agriculture farms to avoid the destruction of crops and soil. The submitted solution should fulfill the following criteria:

• An innovative solution that has never been tried before anywhere around the world.
• Animal-friendly i.e. must not include any toxic materials.
• Cost efficient.
• Ability to be easily replicated in other farms.
• Low maintenance and power consumption, in case of developing a device.

Submitted solutions should include:

A preliminary proposal (about 2-4 pages)  including:

A)Technical requirements:

     -Abstract,

    -Technical background:

• identification of the problem,

• a justification for the proposed work:

           a)Theory,

           b)Previous experience in implementing similar projects,

           c)Identification of Critical Needs

     -Technical approach:

1. objectives;

2. the status of the work progress;

     -Project schedule,

B) Financial Requirements :

    -Estimated costs

    - Equipment and facilities

Conditions:

1. The technical proposal should clearly state how it meets the aforementioned criteria;

2. The financial proposal should include all potential costs, including types of equipment purchased, others items that need to be constructed …..etc.

3. The reward will be given in installments, in accordance to milestones set by the innovator(s) according to their plan of action;
4. As per our platform Terms and Conditions, in case the intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator should include the details required to judge the technical validity and feasibility of the solution without full technical specifications.
